Is there anything Patrick Mahomes can’t do?
Mahomes and the Chiefs are taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2, and the pound-for-pound best quarterback in the NFL is preparing to notch a pair of career milestones of his own early in the 2020 season. Mahomes has a chance to reach 10,000 career passing yards in just 32 career games, which would be the fastest anyone has hit such a mark in the history of the NFL. Kurt Warner currently holds the record at 36 games, with Mahomes currently at 9,623 career passing yards.
A 377-yard day wouldn’t be out of the norm for Mahomes, despite his relatively modest Week 1 against the Houston Texans. The emergence of Clyde Edwards-Helaire gives Andy Reid and Co. another way to beat you.
That’s not the only milestone Mahomes can reach on Sunday
While it’s less likely, Mahomes can pass Dak Prescott and Peyton Manning on the list of three-touchdown games. It’s a less prestigious record, but one filled with some of the best quarterbacks in recent memory. It’s headlined by the one and only Dan Marino, who owns the record with 27 three-touchdown games. With Derwin James out long-term, Mahomes has every opportunity to add to his resume.
The Chiefs are favored to come out of the AFC yet again this season, as they added to a Super Bowl-winning roster with the likes of Edwards-Helaire and others. Brett Veach found a way to lock down several key contributors, including Mahomes, who signed a ten-year extension this offseason worth $500 million.
