Peyton Hillis wants one more year with the Browns

Peyton Hillis apparently wants to run it back with the Browns.

Peyton Hillis’ entire reputation as a once-dominant running back is because of his great 2010 season with the Cleveland Browns. He showed up in town and ran for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns. That was good enough to land him on the cover of Madden and become a national star.

Then came a drama-filled 2011 season in which the running back ran for 587 yards in 10 games. Things were so bad the team just let him walk in free agency and his career eventually came to a quiet end in 2014 with the New York Giants.

Hillis has since started a podcast and has cleared up some of the bad blood between himself and the Browns organization. He clearly regrets the way things went and posted an interesting tweet Friday afternoon.

Peyton Hillis ready for a comeback

Hillis’ heyday with the Browns came a decade ago and he hasn’t played an NFL snap since 2014. So it appears he is reminiscing more than anything. But let’s say he was serious about a comeback. Unfortunately for him, the Browns are more than set with the duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in the backfield.

Hillis had the chance to be a mainstay with the Browns but messed it up when money got involved. Or maybe he was just truly a one-hit wonder. What we do know is that the 34-year-old has been retired since 2015 and any talk of a comeback is just not realistic.

Yet the idea alone of wanting to play for the Browns proves the team is no longer a pushover. Chubb and Hunt ran wild Thursday night for a combined 210 yards and three touchdowns. They are easily the top backfield duo in the NFL.

Next: Browns must focus on the run

Hillis had his time and provided fans with plenty of magical moments in 2010. Now it is time for Chubb and Hunt to do the same in 2020. Hillis will have to remain a fan.
