Ahead of the Seahawks-Patriots game, Bill Belichick said he doesn’t know if there’s a better player in the NFL than Russell Wilson.
It’s been quite the week for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Not only did he put on an offensive clinic in his team’s season-opening win against the Atlanta Falcons, but he was also named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. How could things get better for him?
Well, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick decided to speak glowingly about the talented signal-caller on Thursday morning, stating there might not be another player in the NFL better than him right now.
Russell Wilson lit up the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 and threw for four touchdowns
“Honestly I think he’s in a way underrated by the media or the fans, I don’t know,” Belichick said. “But I don’t really see anybody better than this player.”
Those are the words of a coach who has tremendous admiration for the opponent he’s about to face for Week 2’s Sunday Night Football. You can’t blame Belichick for speaking so highly of the veteran quarterback, especially after what he did in Atlanta on Sunday.
In the 38-25 Seattle victory, Wilson tossed for 322 yards and four touchdowns, including an absolute dime of a throw to second-year wideout DK Metcalf.
While Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson might be getting the most attention from fans and the media right now, and rightfully so, Belichick wants to remind everyone that Wilson is still among the best players in the game. Belichick has gone up against Wilson three times, losing two of those matchups. His victory against Wilson came in the Super Bowl back in February of 2015.
Now, the two will square off once again this Sunday night at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Regardless of the outcome, the amount of respect both Wilson and Belichick have for one another won’t be changing whatsoever.
