Marlon Mack being carted off is a rough situation for Colts

Unfortunately for the Colts, running back Marlon Mack was carted off the field with an ankle injury in the season-opener.

The Colts are currently in a see-saw battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars in their Week 1 showdown, but things just got complicated for the offense. That’s because Marlon Mack has left the game with what appears to be a serious ankle injury.

Mack, who has been known for being a playmaker in recent years for Indianapolis, went down in the first half and ended up being carted off the field. Obviously, this is a major blow for Philip Rivers and the rest of the Colts offense.

Marlon Mack is coming off a career-best year for the Indianapolis Colts

Before going down with his ankle injury, Mack rushed the ball four times for times for 26 yards and added three receptions for 30 yards from Rivers. With Rivers and the offense humming against the Jags, this Mack injury truly feels like a gut punch.

UPDATE: Colts fear Mack has a torn Achilles.

Last season for the Colts, Mack was a force on the ground and really emerged as a standout for the team. He rushed for a career-high 1,091 yards and added eight touchdowns, showcasing his speed and elusive abilities from start to finish in 2019.

He figured to be a major force for the team this campaign now that Rivers is the signal caller. Now, though, the fear for the Colts coaching staff is that Mack could be set to miss a significant amount of time, which would really change their offensive game plan moving forward.

With Mack out, the bulk of the carries will now go to Nyheim Hines. The Colts also drafted former Wisconsin superstar Jonathan Taylor last spring, so his workload will surely increase now that Mack is sidelined.
