Minnesota Vikings fans are going to love Eric Kendricks even more after finding out he helped the team get the Dalvin Cook extension done.
Ask teammates about Eric Kendricks, and they’ll surely tell you he’s all about helping the Minnesota Vikings. That much was proven once again on Saturday.
News broke that the Vikings and Dalvin Cook agreed to a monster extension, adding five more years and $63 million to his deal. But, how did the front office manage to get this kind of a contract done? As it turns out, Kendricks agreed to restructure his deal to help make things happen.
Eric Kendricks agreeing to restructure his contract shows what kind of a teammate he is
Yup, Vikings fans surely are thankful for Kendricks right now, as he played a role in helping Saturday’s breaking news get completed. At the same time, it must be nice for the veteran linebacker, who is getting a $6 million signing bonus in the process. Everyone wins.
A new captain for Minnesota, Cook said in August that he never considered holding out over a new contract. He’s trusted the front office to pay him like one of the best running backs in the game, which they went ahead and got done this weekend.
Now, Cook will look to live up to his new deal. He’ll have his first shot at that on Sunday, with Minnesota taking on the Green Bay Packers in a highly-anticipated season opener. Last season, Cook rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
He’s entering his fourth season with Minnesota, rushing for 2,104 yards and 17 touchdowns since 2017. It’s now time to see what kind of numbers the 210-pound running back will be able to put up this fall and winter.
