The Dallas Cowboys signing Everson Griffen has the fan base pumped up to see what he can do for the defense.
Earlier this week, the Dallas Cowboys made a big-time splash when they signed touted defensive end Everson Griffen to a new contract. Griffen had multiple teams interested in his services, including the Seattle Seahawks, but Dallas came in from out of nowhere to get things done.
It came as a bit of a surprise, but fans have been absolutely ecstatic about the addition ever since the news broke.
Now, things might be taken to a new level after everyone in Dallas sees what new head coach Mike McCarthy had to say about Griffen. Straight up, the veteran coach couldn’t be happier that the front office was able to ink him.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy can’t wait to get to work with defensive end Everson Griffen
“I’ve had the opportunity to visit with him (Griffen) and he’s extremely excited,” McCarthy said while meeting with reporters on Saturday. “He’s a big personality, so I think he’s going to be a great fit for our football team.”
Griffin will immediately step in and help the Dallas pass-rush. For the Cowboys, it’s been an incredibly busy offseason. Things started with the team firing former head coach Jason Garrett and bringing McCarthy in.
After not making the playoffs last year, Jerry Jones lost patience and decided enough was enough. For McCarthy, there will be pressure on him to deliver this year, but knowing a guy like Griffen will be ready to help improve the defense will surely help him sleep at night.
We’ll see if Griffen will be able to live up to the hype in Dallas, but there’s no question McCarthy has all the confidence in the world in him.
