Eagles wide receiver Marquise Goodwin won’t suit up for Philly this year due to coronavirus concerns

Because of his incredible speed and amazing hands, Marquise Goodwin figured to be a major part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense this season. The team acquired him from the San Francisco 49ers in a trade during the NFL Draft, firing up Eagles fans everywhere.

However, it looks like Eagles Nation will have to wait a little while before they end up seeing the former Olympian long jumper take the gridiron at Lincoln Financial Field. Per multiple reports, the speedster has decided to opt out of the 2020 campaign due to coronavirus concerns.

The 49ers traded Goodwin and a sixth-round pick to the Eagles (No. 210 overall) for Philly’s No. 190 overall pick, also a sixth-rounder. Goodwin was getting ready for his eighth season in the NFL and first in the City of Brotherly Love. Things will have to wait until 2021.

Last year with the 49ers, the 5-9, 180-pounder appeared in nine games, recording 12 receptions for 186 yards and one touchdown.

Those numbers don’t necessarily jump off the page, but he’s known for his incredible speed, something which Carson Wentz would have loved to take advantage of with some deep bombs this fall.

While some Eagles fans may be disappointed in the news, they’ll surely be able to understand Goodwin’s reasoning. After his wife had three miscarriages, the safety of their five-month old daughter is a top priority. Due to the growing coronavirus cases across the country, Goodwin wants to do everything in his power to make sure she’s safe.

That means he won’t be playing for the Eagles this year. Goodwin is now one of more than 20 NFL players who have already come out and said they won’t be taking the field in 2020. That number will only continue to grow.
