The Chiefs and Chris Jones are reportedly closing in on a monster new extension
As if signing Patrick Mahomes to the richest contract in sports history wasn’t enough, it looks like the Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to do everything in their power to keep their star players in town for the long-term haul.
On Tuesday afternoon, NFL insider Ian Rapoport has repoted the Chiefs and star defensive tackle Chris Jones are closing in on a ‘big-money’ extension. With the deadline set to come on Wednesday, the talks between the two sides appear to have taken a 180, with some breaking news potentially coming soon.
The Chiefs and Chris Jones are reportedly working on a four-year deal
Just last week, the Chiefs and Mahomes made history, with the Super Bowl MVP signing a 10-year, $503 million contract. When this happened, many out there assumed Kansas City and Jones would put their contract talks on the back burner. That’s clearly not the case, as Rapoport is making it seem like things are trending in the right direction.
While Kansas City fans must be doing cartwheels right now knowing both Mahomes and now Jones appear to be staying in town for years to come, this latest update must anger the Dallas Cowboys. It’s not looking likely at all Dallas and Dak Prescott will be doing the same and putting the pen to paper on a monster contract before the deadline.
This just goes to show how outstanding Kansas City’s front office is able to operate. After winning the Super Bowl in February, who would have thought general manager Brett Veach would be able to work out extensions for both Mahomes and Jones?
With Jones and the Chiefs looking at a four-year deal, and Mahomes locked in for 12 more years, the rest of the NFL must be in panic mode. Things just keep on getting better and better for the reigning Super Bowl champs.
